About Gavin Hodgson.
I have received my Honors Degree from Mount Allison University, with accredited Masters courses in Behavioral Science from the University of Calgary. I have completed and am an accredited to train the trainer for Road To Mental Readiness (R2MR). With a desire to further my education and to remain current I attend ongoing conferences and “Leading Edge” workshops. I have completed several online accredited courses from the National Anger Management Association in Anger Management, Domestic Violence Training (PARS) and Critical Incident Training. I have also graduated from Ontario Police College and South West Firefighting Academy.
As a parent some of the best life lessons come from our children and their interactions, I will bring this attention to detail and devotion to each client I see. Finally, I am forever learning from my beautiful family, whom push me to be the best version of myself that I can achieve. I joined The Growth Group because of their strength in the community and their attention to personal growth.
I will assist in coping with:
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Borderline Personality Disorder
I will also work in combination with medical and psychiatric professionals in treating other conditions, such as:
Severe Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Aggression and Abuse
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
As a cognitive behavioural therapist (CBT) I will be focusing on the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems and changing unhelpful patterns in cognition (e.g., thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes, behaviours, and emotional regulation). My methods focus on either just behaviours or in combination with thoughts and feelings that might be causing them. By taking a specific look at, learned behaviours and how the individual’s personal environment influences those behaviours, we will work at developing personal boundaries, communication strategies, social skills, stress management, anger treatment and improving personal judgment. I also utilize psychotherapy and develop stress strategies in order to assist my clients to meet their goals, as a C.B.T.
Throughout my professional growth, I have worked with individuals ranging age from 15 years old and up, developing coping strategies to begin living a mentally happier and healthier life. As per the standards of my profession, I provide counseling which is both ethical and confidential. I offer both private one-on-one counseling as well as group counseling.
You may contact me by direct referral through the office or direct at (705) 229-7079. I am looking forward to working with you and your challenges.
